Squirrels in the garden

51 pictures on the scout camera, mostly squirrels.

Raccoon in the garden at night

I am hoping for more pictures like this one.

Squirrels in the garden

141 pictures on the scout camera today (but that was over two days).

There was a rabbit in the woodland garden Thursday at dusk, but it somehow evaded the camera.

Squirrel in the garden

21 pictures on the scout camera today.

It is strange that no creatures come to drink from the pool at night.

Kokopelli in the garden

This was a gift from my brother.

Beehive composter

This compost bin is supposed to look like a beehive.

Some people have mentioned to me that they thought it was a dog house.

Ice sculpture in the garden

In addition to the 66 pictures, I tried to take some pictures in manual mode.

The squirrels gnaw on the plastic sump hose, causing small leaks that spray and freeze.

Squirrel in the garden

66 pictures on the scout camera today, all of them squirrels.

Still hoping that some exotic creature will visit the garden pool at night.

It is so cold that there is not much open water available, so it seems strange that the watering hole is not getting much use.

I know from my own experience that dry shade can be difficult.

Dill

Interesting article at The Herb Companion (link here) on Dill, 2010 Herb of the Year.

Squirrel in the garden

No pictures yesterday. Continuing technical difficulties. I did learn that the camera only supports memory cards up to 2gb, so that explains why the 4gb card does not work.

So, I reformatted and reinstalled the 1gb card.

48 pictures on the camera today, most of them were of me, very disappointing.

I was hoping for some good pictures of exotic creatures coming to the garden pool at night to drink.

Fabulous daylilies.

Daylily Hybridizer

Today, we attended the meeting of the Daylily Society of Southeast Wisconsin at Boerner.

http://www.dssew.org/

The speaker was Phil Korth from Pinewood Gardens at Suamico, WI (near Green Bay).

Phil and his wife grow 3500-4000 daylily seedlings per year.

He showed us a fabulous array of flowers, some as large as 7-8".

Renews my interest in growing daylilies.

Lack of pictures

No pictures on the scout camera again today.

Continuing technical difficulties.

I think the new memory card might be defective.

Yes, We Have No Pictures

No pictures on the scout camera today.

The camera was full because the old pictures were not properly deleted.

I learned a lesson here. Confirm that the pictures are deleted after deletion.

Also, we bought a 4 gig memory card for the camera today.

Supposed to be "plug and play" so we will see how that works.

Squirrels in the garden at night

I had no idea that squirrels were so active at night.

802 pictures on the camera today, almost all of them squirrels from last night.

And there would have been more, except the camera stopped taking pictures when the memory card was full.

Definitely need a bigger card.

Gardener in the garden

The gardener carefully judges the position of the camera, hoping for the perfect photo.

Raccoon in the garden at night

Maybe this is what set off the camera on the previous night.

Squirrels in the garden

736 pictures on the scout camera today, most of them were squirrels.

The 1 gig memory card was 96% full, so we might have to consider buying a bigger card.

Night time in the garden

I sure would like to know what set this off.

Squirrels in the garden

141 pictures on the scout camera today.

I had the camera set too high off the ground, so a lot of the pictures do not show any wildlife.

Of the ones that do show wildlife, they are all of squirrels as far as I can tell.

Squirrel in the garden

What is this?

60 pictures on the scout camera, and as far as I can tell, they are all squirrels.

I think this one might be a squirrel sitting on the camera.

Squirrels in the garden

132 pictures on the scout camera today, and as far as I can tell, they were all taken of squirrels.

Now I love my squirrels dearly, but it would be nice to get some pictures of rabbits, opossums, foxes, raccoons, coyotes, and deer in addition to the squirrels.

Robins in the garden

There were three (3) robins working the edges of the garden pool today.

I guess they do not understand that they were supposed to fly south for the winter.

Sunday, January 17, 2010

Foxes in the garden

I found blood & fur of a rabbit near the garden pool.

A pair hunting together is going to be tough on the rabbit population.

Maybe they can do something about the voles.

Cardinal in the garden

The camera is too close to the subject.

Andrew recommends a companion post near the birdfeeder.

Opossum in the garden

There was an opossum in the garden during the middle of the day yesterday.

Again, no pictures.

Very disappointing.

Robin the garden pool

There was a robin in the garden pool yesterday.

It must be very tough with all this snow and cold.

They used to fly south for the winter.

Garden pool update

The garden pool is already being overrun with pond scum (starting a couple of days ago).

I treated it yesterday with barley extract.

I need to start treating the pool before Christmas.

Opossum on the garden

There was an opossum in the woodland garden yesterday at dusk.

It eluded the scout camera (the camera was pointed away from the woodland garden toward the mineral block).

Very disappointing.

Gardener in the garden

Too many pictures like this, and not enough pictures of bears, wolves, and mountain lions.

Gardener in the garden

Mostly pictures of the gardener on the scout camera.

Very disappointing.

Squirrel in the garden

Another of many pictures of squirrels in the garden.

In the right foreground, a piece of garden art made from an old stovetop corn popper.

Behind that, another piece of garden art sent to me from Colorado by Brian.

Gardener in the garden

Either the gardener in the garden or maybe just some random old geezer wandering through.

Dog in the garden

This is Carol's new Brittany Spaniel female puppy.

There seems to be some confusion over the name: Britta, Bailey, or maybe even Spears.

This would be a welcome addition to the garden.

Rabbit in the garden

There was a rabbit in the garden this morning.

So far, it has eluded my scout camera.

Sunday, January 3, 2010

Squirrels in the garden

Just one of dozens of pictures of squirrels in the garden.

Many thanks to Andrew for making adjustments to the camera settings.

Saturday, January 2, 2010

Foxes in the garden

Numerous fox tracks in the garden.

One of the advantages of snow cover.

So far, they have eluded my scout camera.

I did find a chewed off rabbit leg next to the back line.
