Mildew resistance is very important.

I love the vanilla species Monarda but it is susceptible to downy mildew.

Geum 'Totally Tangerine'

Zone 4? Put this on my wish list!

I think there was a Led Zeppelin song about this.

 Blogger is misbehaving.

This is only a test.

Chocolate Vine

Volunteer chocolate vine near the original chocolate vine.

Composted Pruners

We are harvesting a compost pile that we started 10-15 years ago.  There is some very good compost in the bottom of that pile. Also found these pruners in the bottom of the pile.  Apparently, they compost very slowly.

Vole

The stress was too much for him?

Or maybe chipmunks do not want to share turf?

Yellow Sneezeweed

 Sneezeweed

One of my favorite garden plants. Cold hardy, pest & disease resistant, drought tolerant.

Sneezeweed

 Sneezeweed AKA Helen's Flower

I prefer this color but there is no question that the plain yellow is much more robust.

Pansy

Pansy looking remarkably good after the heat of summer.

I find it supremely ironic that somehow the word "pansy" got transmogrified into a word that means a person who is not tough, because the plant is tough as nails and will survive conditions that leave a lot of other plants on the compost heap.

Belgravia Rose

This might be a good choice for up on the hill at The Lodge.

Blue Waterfall

Looks interesting, but rich, loamy soil is in short supply around here.

Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate

Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate, so named because it gets very tall and leans.

This is a truly pathetic example growing in a crack in the driveway, but it is what it is.

Morning Glory

Morning Glory.  I really like the red highlights.

Cucumbers

Cucumbers grown from seed

Dirt

A custom mix of garden dirt, coir, peat moss, finished & screened compost, perlite, and #2 cherry stone chicken grit.

Works great.

Metallic Gold Dragonfly

This is just some random photo from the internet, but yesterday, I saw a metallic gold dragonfly in the garden.  It was so gold and so metallic that it looked fake.  I did not have my phone with me, but even if I did, it moved off so fast that I could not have photographed it.

If I were a conspiracy theorist, I might think it was a government surveillance device.

Joan Elliott

Clustered Bellflower 'Joan Elliott'

Zinnia

Zinnia, variety unknown.

Japanese Maple

One is looking much healthier than the other.

The dead one was a $400 value door prize from Monrovia at Boerner several years ago.

Very disappointing.  The combination of polar vortex and verticillium wilt is a killer.

Elderberry

The native Elderberry.

And it all descends from that original single stem that was given to us by The Village all those years ago on Arbor Day.  The gift that just keeps on giving.

Grandpa Ott

Hellebore 'Rio Carnival'

We have some very nice clumps of Hellebore, but this would be a welcome addition to our collection.

Seven Sons

Seven Sons, a very nice understory tree.

Weigela

Weigela.  Do not remember the cultivar.

Sundrops

The first Sundrops blossoms in the garden.

Nannyberry Viburnum

The Nannyberry Viburnum must also have some resistance to the Viburnum Leaf Beetle.
